Status Effects
Status effects are temporary conditions applied to characters that modify their attributes, control capabilities, or deal damage over time. Some are beneficial (buffs) while others are harmful (debuffs). Elemental status effects may interact with one another and with environmental states.

Elemental Interactions
Darkhaven's elemental system is state-driven rather than purely damage-based. Certain status effects interact with each other and with environmental conditions. For example, fire-based effects can be extinguished by water-based states, and prolonged cold exposure can escalate from Chilled to Frozen. Environmental states such as Damp influence combat outcomes by modifying how elemental statuses behave.

Debuffs
Burn
elementalDeals fire damage over time. Commonly applied by fire-based attacks and hazardous surfaces such as lava or burning ground.
Bleed
slashingDeals physical damage over time. Typically applied by slashing attacks and certain blood magic abilities.
Poison
elementalDeals acid damage over time. Applied by venomous attacks, poison gas, and corrosive abilities.
Chilled
elementalReduces movement and attack speed. Extended exposure or stacking may escalate the target into a Frozen state.
Frozen
elementalCompletely immobilizes the target. Typically breaks when the affected target takes direct damage.
Stun
crowd_controlBriefly incapacitates the target, preventing all actions. Commonly applied by blunt-force attacks.
Entangle
crowd_controlRoots the target in place while still allowing them to attack.
Shock
elementalDeals lightning damage and may chain to nearby enemies, depending on ability mechanics.
Gloom
corruptionCorruption damage originating from the Gloom. Stacks may significantly increase danger over time.
Cursed
corruptionA dark affliction that reduces the target's combat effectiveness. Applied by shadow-aligned abilities.
Scourge
witchA shadow damage-over-time effect applied by the Witch's Shadow Walk ability.
Buffs
Flask Effect
A beneficial effect granted from using a flask or potion.
Enrage
Increases damage output at the cost of defensive capability.
Stun Immunity
Prevents stun effects from being applied while active.
Environmental States
Damp
Applied when moving through water or being struck by water-based abilities. May extinguish fire-based status effects and influence elemental interactions.
